Innovative healthcare fintech Speak Benefits acquired by future-focused venture company Morse.
Bentonville, AR: With a mission squarely focused on disrupting healthcare payment technologies, fast-rising fintech Speak (formerly Speak Retail Group) has found a strategic partner to help propel growth in Morse Capital Partners.
Speak fulfills a unique space in the healthcare sector, primarily partnering with Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Commercial health plans to make consumer benefit and reward allowances accessible through a prepaid debit card or digital delivery.
Speak takes a modern, tech-focused approach, allowing consumers to purchase approved products with their health plan benefit dollars through a variety of different brick-and-mortar or online retailers. Using restricted payment technology, the approved products are verified and the health plan provided benefit dollars are debited automatically by the swipe of the debit card at the retailer point of sales.
The financial technology company also specializes in health plan reward programs that incentivize members for healthy behaviors, such as receiving vaccines or getting blood pressure readings, using their technology to issue member rewards in real time.
Regarding the acquisition, Speak’s leadership saw Morse’s funding, user experience expertise, and industry partnerships as key strategic pillars for realizing their vision for the future of the company.
“Having the partnership and investment from Morse allows us to innovate and explore additional products that allow us to stay on the cusp of what’s next in healthcare,” says Speak co-founder Eve LeMaster. “It aligns with our goals to disrupt the industry, continuously add value for our client base, and make healthcare better.”
After the acquisition in March of 2022, Speak relaunched their brand in December with a fresh look and feel, a retooled go-to-market strategy, a new website, and a new mobile app (launching early 2023). Behind the scenes, Speak also added robust digital customer service support, further enhancing their overall offering for health plans.
These new enhancements, all core areas of expertise for their new partners at Morse, speak to the immediate impact of the partnership.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Speak’s fintech innovation expertise into the Morse portfolio – particularly the ability to restrict spend at the item level,” says Morse partner, Matt Fitzgerald. “There is unlimited capability and potential for this technology. It’s truly a mutually beneficial partnership at every level.”
